Flax/Harakeke grows throughout New Zealand in lowland and coastal areas, usually around wetlands or along riversides. It produces tough straight leaves that has many cultural uses in textiles, weaving and even became an industrial asset.

The nectar produced in the flowers of flax draw attention from particularly from Tui, making it a simple choice for bringing native birdlife to your land.

Harakeke can grow to a significant size (upwards of 2m). Planting locations should be chosen with this in mind.
