Tussock grasses are an important part of New Zealand’s natural beauty, seen in great numbers forming grasslands in the central plateau and throughout the mountains of the South Island. They have a tendency to transform a garden into something that is iconically native to New Zealand.
Tussocks in the wild grow slowly and some individual plants are estimated to be centuries old. They grow up to about a metre tall and tolerate drought conditions once established.
